Mother Arrested for DUI After Daughter Calls Police
Published on 07/28/2010
The 49 year-old Jamie Hicks was arrested after her young daughter told emergency operators that she was speaking incorrectly and was driving erratically.
In the car with Hicks were her 10 and 12 year old daughters. She was reportedly weaving in and out of lanes on an upstate New York highway.
In addition to being charged with a DUI, she was also charged with a crime that makes it illegal to drive drunk with a child under the age of 15 in the car.
Police claim that Hicks had a blood alcohol content of .18 which is more than twice the legal limit in New York.
This incident comes on the day before the anniversary of the Taconic tragedy when Diane Schuler, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, drove the wrong way on a New York highway with her children in her minivan, causing an accident that killed eight people.
